ZAANDAM is a further vessel of similar design which started with the STATENDAM although she is larger. Built in 2000, this is the 3rd ship in the Rotterdam-class.
In 2020 the self served laundry rooms were removed.
Drydock in 2022 for underwater work, stabilizer work, full hull blast and paint, ADA upgrades, new carpet and furniture, various public spaces upgrades.
There are 716 total staterooms on board, with 30% of them including a step-out private balcony, and the largest being the Pinnacle Suites.
Passengers booked in the Neptune and Pinnacle Suites will enjoy bonus perks by the Club Orange program including an exclusive dining venue, Club Orange Restaurant. Nightly entertainment can be found at the main show lounge, Mondriaan Lounge, which offersgrand prodcutions as well as enrichment lectures and specialty acts. Wajang Theatre & Culinary Arts Centre is a cinema that also offers culinary and cooking classes. Live entertainment can also be found at the Atrium, Ocean Bar, Explorers Lounge and Bar, Piano Bar, Crows Nest, and Casino. Suite guests have a private area called the Neptune Lounge.
Kids have their own space at Club HAL, which has complimentary kids programming. There is also The Loft which is for teens including a video games arcade, playstations, and a teen disco.
Outdoor entertainment can be found at the sports court which has tennis, basketball, and shuffleboard and walking track. There is a Lido Pool Area and a Sea View Pool Area with swimming pools and jacuzzis.
The Wellness Complex consists of a fitness center, and Greenhouse Salon & Spa with therapy rooms, Hydrotherapy pool, thermal suites, sauna, steam room, relaxation area, and salon.

- All staterooms, showrooms, and most indoor areas are designated non-smoking. Guests are allowed to smoke on stateroom verandahs (Effective in January 2017 smoking will not be allowed on verandahs)

- On ms Prinsendam, ms Koningsdam and ms Nieuw Statendam, smoking allowed on the port side. Smoking is never on both sides.
- Smoking allowed in the Sun Bar on ms Koningsdam and ms Nieuw Statendam.
- Allowed on Sports Deck forward and aft of Crow's Nest on starboard side on ms Maasdam, ms Veendam, ms Volendam, ms Zaandam, ms Rotterdam and ms Amsterdam, aft of Crow's Nest starboard side.
- Cigar and pipe smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the ship
- Only allowed in designated outdoor smoking areas.
